Good news in the mail for Sea Point; new post office to open in The Point.
There is good news in store for Sea Point residents who have been without a neighbourhood post office since July 2016. A new post office is nearing completion and is expected to open its doors beginning November in The Point Mall.
There were once four post offices between Sea Point and Roggebaai, and when the last one closed its doors earlier this year, many residents voiced their displeasure at the inconvenience of having to travel to the V&A Waterfront for postal services. This was especially challenging for the poor and the elderly who rely on the many of the services offered by SA Post Office.
Situated on the 2nd floor of The Point Mall, the new post office will offer the full range of postal services, including P.O. Boxes which will be located on the first basement level. In addition to the added convenience of secure undercover parking, Sea Point residents will be able to pop in into the post office while doing their shopping or meeting with friends over a meal or coffee at The Point Mall.
“The new post office is a welcome addition to the area, and we are delighted that they chose to base themselves at The Point Mall,” says Berman Bros. Group (BBG) CEO, Paul Berman. ”Our vision in redeveloping The Point was to create a contemporary, multi-purpose space that supports the needs of our surrounding community under one convenient roof. For our surrounding neighbours, a post office is an important facility, as indeed it is for residents from the greater Sea Point and Green Point area.”
“We understand that our customers were inconvenienced by the forced closure of the last Post Office in Sea Point earlier this year,” says post office retail manager, Rian de Jager. “I’m very pleased to announce the new post office in The Point Mall which will open in time for the busy holiday season when the public is reaching out to friends and family around South Africa and the rest of the world.”
To celebrate both the new post office and the festive season, The Point Mall received a special request from Santa asking for a dedicated post box to be situated outside the entrance to the new post office so that all the children who have been good throughout the year can post their Christmas wish list directly to the North Pole.
